My family loves this recipe...an easy twist on an everyday favorite at our house! It's fast enough to do by scratch in the morning, but for serving a crowd I would totally try the freeze ahead & bake method.
3 eggs
½ c milk
½ c oj - fresh squeezed is best
2 T sugar
1 tsp grated orange peel
¼ tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp allspice *opt (I leave it out)
dash salt
8 slices texas toast
1/3 c butter, melted
Beat eggs slightly. Add all but bread and butter and beat well. Dip each piece of bread and cook on buttered grill until golden on each side. Serve with bacon and fruit skewers.
Freeze ahead method: Dip each piece of bread and place on a parchment/wax paper covered baking sheet. Cover lightly with foil and freeze 1-2 hours or until frozen. Store stacked between waxed paper in a ziplock bag.
To serve: brush 1 side of frozen bread and place butter-side down on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 10 minutes at 425. Brush top with butter and turn. Bake 5-10 more minutes until golden.
