This dish is a quick version with the same flavors...almost as good.
Cabbage Roll Casserole
1 ½ lbs lean ground beef
2 medium onions, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
14 oz can tomato sauce
(or one can of diced tomatoes and one T of tomato paste)
14 oz can water
½ cup uncooked long grain rice
4 cups shredded cabbage
Brown beef with onions. Drain.
Add garlic, salt, pepper, tomato sauce and water. Bring to a boil and stir in rice.
Cover and simmer for 20 minutes on low.
Place ½ of cabbage in a greased casserole dish. Cover with ½ of the rice mixture.
Repeat layers.
Cover and bake in 350 oven for 1 hour.
Serve with sour cream and/or ketchup. May be refrigerated before baking.
Serves 6.
