I came home to find this little surprise on my doorstep...and I laughed my head off.
Aren't they adorable?
They're CUPCAKES people!
They were so stinkin' perfect, I KNEW Karen had to be behind them...and she was.
Karen...share your genius...(please?)

Ok, this is SO not my genius. I just found it on the internets. Apparently it's from a book called "Hello Cupcake", which looks pretty darned cute, and also Martha Stewart did it on her show or something because it's on her web site, too. Basically, you start with cupcakes. You'll need white frosting (I just used some from a can for Dana's-- nobody tell her, ok?) Color a tiny bit of it green and frost one cupcake with that. Add some green skittles or runts and some quartered orange starbursts for the peas and carrots.
Color some frosting brown (or use chocolate frosting) for the brownie/pudding, and top with colored sprinkles.
For the potatoes, frost generously with white frosting, swirling and adding a dip in the center to look like mashed potatoes. Add a yellow starburst for butter. I was supposed to add some caramel sauce for gravy, but I forgot to buy that. I think it looks cute either way.
For the drumsticks, draw some bone templates on wax paper and then outline and fill them in with melted white chocolate wafers. Let cool completely. The "recipe" calls for crushed cornflakes for the breading on the chicken, but I thought that sounded gross, so I used crumb donuts, pulverized in my food processor. I also used halved mini-donuts (the same ones I used for crumbs) on top of the cupcakes to add some height before frosting. I colored the frosting for the drumsticks light brown and then frosted and rolled them in the donut crumbs. Insert your "bones" and you're done. Easy peasy. These were so fun. I think I'll make them again for my kids for April Fools Day this year.
PS. HAPPY BELATED 2010 folks!
